FRAUD ALERT

Oncepts Properties, Inc. believes you work hard for your money. We want to provide you with information that may help you avoid being scammed.

Beware of scams perpetuated through the telephone and through e-mails in which scammers cold-call small businesses identifying themselves as representatives of “Oncepts Properties Preferred Contractor” program (or something similar variations) offering the business to be their exclusive contractor in the area. They offer to include ads featuring the business on printed materials distributed by local Oncepts Properties agents and brokers. This is followed up by emails offering this deal “at no cost to Oncepts Properties”, the only cost being the direct cost to the printer, New Horizon Oncepts (or some other false name), which the business is required to pay. The scammer actually just pockets the money without delivering the goods. Please be advised that Oncepts Properties, Inc. and onceptsproperties.com are not in any way connected to this solicitation which is in fact fraudulent. If it’s too good to be true, it isn’t true.

  • Know the company and/or individual you are dealing with when sending money.
  • Use caution when giving out financial and other personal information via email, text or fax. Sensitive information may include: bank account number, home address, credit card number, social security number, etc. Giving access to such sensitive information to the wrong party may cause your identity to be stolen.
  • Avoid deals/transactions involving shipping services. These types of scams often claim that a MTCN (money transfer control number) or confirmation code is needed before withdrawing your money. These assurances and/or guarantees are false statements, and once you’ve wired the money, it is gone. Recovery is next to impossible. Use caution.
  • Property/Apartment listing may be local, but the landlord/owner is “travelling” or “relocating” and needs you to wire money to them abroad. These types of transactions are usually a scam. Once you’ve wired the money, it is gone. Recovery is next to impossible. Use caution. You may want to obtain a property title report to ensure the status (not in foreclosure) status and to verify the recorded owner.

Most scams involve one or more of the following:

  • Inquiry from someone far away, often in another country.
  • Western Union, Money Gram, cashier’s check, money order, shipping, escrow service, or a “guarantee.”
  • Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face before consummating transaction.

Who should you notify about fraud or scam attempts?

  • FTC online complaint form (gov).
  • Internet Fraud Complaint Center (gov).
  • Non-emergency number for your local police department.
